Winter Camp - December/January 2017/2018

Week of December 26-29, 2017

Top Chef - Ciao Italia
Grades 3-5

If you were forced to eat only one type of food for the rest of your life, many people would choose Italian!  

Start your obsession with Italian food by making and cooking famous dishes from different regions of Italy. Risotto from Lombardy, Ragu alla Bolognese from Bologna, Pizza from Naples, Seadas from Sardinia, Bruschetta from Lazio, Farinata from Liguria, and Pasta with pesto from Genoa sparkled with Parmigiano Reggiano.  We'll finish up with a tasty Cannoli from Sicily.  

By the end of the week you will see how Italians use a handful of ingredients to create awesome food that sings!

The Modern Farmer
Grades 2-4

Discover the joy of growing your own fruit and vegetables and acquire the skills and knowledge to make your own delicious home garden.  We will learn about plant biology and nutrient cycling within ecosystems and human systems hands-on! We will craft pots that you can plant directly in the ground, make seed kits that you can harvest in the spring, build worm composting bins for home composting, and more!  For the ultimate urban farming experience, we will visit local working organic farms, gardens and we will shop the farmers market to create fresh local dishes.  After this camp, you will have the skills to start your own edible landscape and help increase food security for all!

Led by Alex Tranovich. Alex is an outdoor environmental educator on Catalina Island where he teaches and inspires youth about conservation.He previously led teen groups on trips to Europe and taught at Celsius. Alex earned his B.A.with honors in environmental studies from UC Santa Barbara.

Leornardo Da Vinci - Enginneering
Grades 4-6

It has been more than 500 years since the passing of Leonardo Da Vinci, yet his discoveries and inventions are still viewed with awe. His curiosity and imagination led him to create masterpieces that serve as wonderful teaching tools, even today.

We will build and explore some of his most famous inventions, including: his catapult, helicopter, tank and ornithopter. We will also guide you through the hands-on building of your own machines, using the technology of today, including hydraulics. Finally, will learn about the life of Da Vinci to see what traits guided him to his greatness and how we can understand and access those traits in ourselves. By week’s end, you will take home all of your creations as inspiration and a reminder of the great things YOU can do.

Fee: $400 plus $25 materials fee

Camp hours are from 9am to 4pm. Extended care: 8-9am and 4-6pm.

All camps will be held at our main studios at 3rd Ave. and Balboa St.

Sign up for two sessions (same child or sibling) and get $20 off each session fee.

    Extended Care: 8-9am/4-6pm. Billed in one hour increments.
    - Advanced payments for Extended Care are $12.00 per hour.
    - Ad Hoc during the week of camp are billed at $15.00 per hour.

    ** Sorry, lunch is not offered during our Winter Camps **

    Any changes to previously confirmed sessions shall be assessed a $35 fee.

    Transfer subject to availability.

    Cancellation Policy:
    - Before December 1st- a credit for 50% of the price paid. Credit is good towards any Celsius and Beyond program (camps, birthday parties and workshops) for a year after date of initial registration.
    - After December 1st. A credit for 25% of the price paid.

Payment Policy:

We accept cash, check, e-check and credit cards. Reservations are not confirmed without payment received. Online registration and payment ensures immediate confirmation. Payments by check should be sent in within 3 days of making an online reservation or the spot will be released.
