Cancer Research and Publication - Outsmarting Cancer Together

Cancer Research After-School & Weekend Program

Join the mission to understand and fight cancer through an accelerated research experience designed for students with a passion for discovery and a desire to change the world. Guided by a professional scientist and equipped with advanced tools that replicate real laboratories, including live cancer cells and qPCR technology, this hands-on program is built on the belief that curiosity, mentorship, and access to cutting-edge resources can empower students to make meaningful contributions to one of the world’s most pressing challenges. Whether you’re pipetting under the microscope or decoding data patterns, you’ll be immersed in the investigative process from start to finish.

You will design and execute original research studies using real living cancer cells. Applying advanced scientific methods, you will test hypotheses over an extended period and uncover meaningful correlations. You will also utilize artificial intelligence and statistical tools to analyze experimental data. Additional activities include: RT-qPCR, MTT Proliferation assay, invasion assay, and gene copy number qualification.  We will learn about cancer immunology and perform statistical analysis through R Studio, with basic programming.

By the end of the program, your team will compile findings and conclusions, co-author a formal research paper, and submit it for publication. Last year, Celsius cancer researchers proudly presented their work at UCSF’s RISE UP for Breast Cancer conference—an inspiring showcase of student-led scientific impact.

Harrison Li, M.S

Harrison Li, M.SUCSF Med School

Led byHarrison Li, M.S UCSF Med School

Harrison was inspired to pursue medicine after his family was struck with a tragic cancer diagnosis. The experience motivated him to dedicate his life to finding more effective treatment and screening options for cancer and other devastating illnesses. He has always loved mentoring youth and wants to inspire others to see how science, from laboratory benchtop studies to translational and healthcare disparities research, is critical to saving lives.

Harrison is a prolific researcher. He has published 30 peer-reviewed papers in diverse areas such as cancer immunology, intratumor microbiome, and COVID-19 outcome disparities. He is interested in the application of artificial intelligence and data mining to uncover diagnostic markers, treatment targets, and systemic disparities in access to care and treatment outcomes. He has presented his work at numerous conferences and received 13 awards and scholarships, including the prestigious Churchill Scholarship. Harrison has been teaching life science at Celsius and Beyond for three years.

Harrison has a B.S. in Bioengineering from the University of California San Diego and a Master of Philosophy in Medical Science from Cambridge University UK in Cancer Research. He is currently a medical school student at the University of California San Francisco.
