Chemical Reactions Bonanza
Usually blowing things up, or even just setting them on fire, is discouraged, but in our chemical reactions camp, it is perfectly fine and encouraged!
Learn about the five primary types of chemical reactions and conduct some of them yourself. We will mix, shake, and heat chemicals as well as everyday materials, to create a Coca-Cola volcano, a glowing Gummy Bear, a glow-in-the-dark stick, Silly Putty, a lava lamp, and color-changing solutions. We will melt spoons, hold fire in our hands, create smoke without fire, and more! After each reaction, we will learn about the chemical structure of the materials and why they react the way they do.
For extra fun, we will create tasty chemical reactions: ice cream, yogurt, and kombucha, and finish up with a visit to a beer brewery in the city to learn about fermentation.
Children need to have decision-making capability to participate in this camp. We reserve the right to move a child to a different camp should we feel we are unable to keep our uncompromising commitment to safety.
