Did you know that half of all men and one in three women will likely be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime? Our two-week Cancer Research Summer Camp is designed to help you understand and combat this disease. Dive into scientific research by conducting real-life laboratory experiments using live cancer cells. You’ll explore how various substances, such as alcohol, Roundup, and cannabis, affect human cells. Track cell growth rates and changes in gene expression using classic tissue culture techniques and utilize AI and statistical tests to analyze patient and gene expression data from large online databases. Together, we’ll examine the intersection of biological processes and patient-specific factors and aggregate data from all students to uncover different correlations.
In the laboratory portion of our camp, you’ll grow and feed cancer cells, dividing them in flasks to test whether certain substances correlate with cancer-related genes. Using quantitative PCR, you’ll observe in real-time how gene expression changes in response to adding these substances.
By the end of the program, we’ll compile our findings into figures and write a research manuscript detailing our work. We’ll then submit your paper for publication. Last year, Celsius’ cancer research campers presented their poster at UCSF’s RISE UP for Breast Cancer conference, showcasing the incredible impact of their research.
The fee for this two-week camp is $1,540. This price includes all materials, additional preparation time by the instructor both before and after camp, and the expensive lab supplies and machinery.

Harrison was inspired to pursue medicine after his family was struck with a tragic cancer diagnosis. The experience motivated him to dedicate his life to finding more effective treatment and screening options for cancer and other devastating illnesses. He has always loved mentoring youth and wants to inspire others to see how science, from laboratory benchtop studies to translational and healthcare disparities research, is critical to saving lives.
Harrison is a prolific researcher. He has published 30 peer-reviewed papers in diverse areas such as cancer immunology, intratumor microbiome, and COVID-19 outcome disparities. He is interested in the application of artificial intelligence and data mining to uncover diagnostic markers, treatment targets, and systemic disparities in access to care and treatment outcomes. He has presented his work at numerous conferences and received 13 awards and scholarships, including the prestigious Churchill Scholarship. Harrison has been teaching life science at Celsius and Beyond for three years.
Harrison has a B.S. in Bioengineering from the University of California San Diego and a Master of Philosophy in Medical Science from Cambridge University UK in Cancer Research. He is currently a medical school student at the University of California San Francisco.
