Think Neuroscience!

Le’ts dive into the mind-boggling world of the brain and nervous system! We will discover how the nervous system helps us remember, learn, and feel. Through the dissection of a sheep’s brain and observation of a real human brain, and many fun activities, we will explore the different parts of the brain that let us sense the world around us and perform actions with our bodies. With the help of very cute live cockroaches, we will hear the electrical activity of what we think of as silent neurons. We will learn about neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and epilepsy, and consider possible solutions that harness our new knowledge of the brain. Come join us in what is regarded as one of the 21st century’s most exciting subjects in science.

Led bySarah Hillenbrand Ph.D. Ph.D.

When Sarah was younger, she was fascinated by how living things like plants and animals work. Brains were particularly exciting to her because they were full of mystery, just waiting to be discovered. She soon discovered that she loves to think, learn, write, and teach about brains.

Sarah received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from UC Berkeley in 2015, using brain scans to figure out how people learn to control their movements. She taught at Stanford University courses in how to develop a research argument and another on how to think like a scientist when solving real-world problems. Sarah also taught brain biology in the Psychology department at the University of San Francisco. Currently, Sarah is an AP Psychology teacher at Making Wave Academy in Oakland, CA.
