Marine Biology

Sixty years ago, in 1962, a marine biologist published a book about humans’ powerful and often adverse effects on the natural world. The book Silent Spring explained how chemicals used in agriculture pollute our streams, harm birds and animals, and make humans sick. Thanks to her book, people changed their views of science and influenced the government to change its laws to help keep our environment safer and cleaner.

We will repeat some of Rachel Carson’s work by examining our San Francisco environment. Using scientific tools, we will collect and study water samples to test our ponds and ocean for pH, carbon dioxide, oxygen, and salinity levels. By dissecting fish, we will learn about the different ways fish can survive in cold water and understand its limits to dealing with pollution. We will create our own tidepool and watch how an “oil spill” damages it. As we visit a tidepool, we will view and assess diversity in the water and the sky. We will foster our love of planet Earth through many activities and games and learn how science can help us save our environment.

Campers will be using MUNI to travel to China Beach, Golden Gate Park, and the Embarcadero.

Fees and Policies

  • Early Bird Rate (until March 31) is $550 per week.
  • Camp Fees after March 31st are $585 per week
  • An annual insurance/registration fee of $25 is required for each family account.

Material fee: Surgery! $35, Ballistics and Genetics $30.

Discount

  • Multiple Session Discount – Also applicable to siblings
    • Sign up for 2 sessions: receive a total of $50 off
    • Sign up for 3 sessions: receive a total of $90 off
    • Sign up for 4 sessions or more: $140 off or more (at $35 per session)

    Discount is calculated automatically by the system.

  • Refer a family who has never attended a Celsius camp before and receive either a credit of $75 off a future camp or a refund of $30 per referral that signs up and pays for a 2022 Summer Camp. Email us with your referrals once they are committed to sign up. No cross family referrals will be accepted.

Extended Care

  • Early morning extended care from 8am to 9am
  • Afternoon extended care from 4pm up to 5pm.
  • Advanced payments (prior to start of camp) for all Extended Care are $15 per hour, or $75 per week for all 5 days of either AM or PM care.
  • Ad Hoc during the week of camp are billed at $18 per hour.
  • Pick up after 5pm will be charged at a rate of $2.00 per minute (no grace)
  • Extended Care is billed in one hour increments after a 10 minute grace period.

Cancellation Policy

-Any changes (other than cancellation) to previously confirmed sessions shall be assessed a $40 fee. Transferring sessions is subject to availability.

– In the event that the SFDPH orders us to close a specific camp for 5 days due to an outbreak, no refund will be issued.

Cancellation requests with more than 2 weeks’ notice, will receive a refund less the $200 non-refundable deposit.
– No refunds will be issued for cancellations made by you for any reason less than 14 days prior to the start of a session, however partial credits on your Celsius account are available as follows:

– More than 7 days and less than 14 days cancellation notice prior to the start date of the session, a credit for 80% of the total price paid less the $200 non-refundable fee.

– Between 3 and 7 days notice = 50% credit of total price paid less the $200 non-refundable fee.

– Less than 3 days notice no credit and no refund for any cancellations.

Please Note: We are sorry, but there are no refunds or reduction in fees for days missed due to illness, absence, last-minute vacations/trips, change in family circumstances during camp sessions, suspension or dismissal

We accept cash, check, e-check, and Zelle payments. For Zelle payments, please use our email address (Hello at CelsiusandBeyond dot com).
Reservations are not confirmed without payment received. Online registration and payment ensure immediate confirmation. Payments by check should be sent in within 3 days of making an online reservation or the spot will be released.
